Once I decided to pursue yachting, I was all in. The first thing I did was book my STCW Basic Training course through Bluewater Yachting in Palma de Mallorca. I did loads of research and found it to be one of the most reputable. That same week, I studied for and passed my Food & Hygiene Level 2 exam, I was determined to come fully prepared. Before I left the island, I also completed my ENG1 medical exam, knowing it would be hard to find an MCA-approved doctor back in Dénia, where I’m currently based.
My week in Palma was incredibly motivating. I spent time learning from experienced crew and soaking up as much information as possible. One key takeaway? I’ll eventually need to get my boating license to run the tender, that’s officially added to my to-do list. I stayed in a crew house which i would recommend to everyone because it truly allowed me to get behind the scenes of the yachting industry.
Since completing my training, I’ve been actively networking, joining yacht job groups on Facebook, attending crew meet-ups, and applying to both charter and private vessels. I’m aiming to start as a Junior or Third Stewardess, but my long-term goal is to work my way up to Chief Stew. I love the idea of bringing creative flair to the table, quite literally. I’ve been watching table decor tutorials and saving theme night inspiration so I can be ready to shine during charters.
