The Skills I Didn’t Know Were Preparing Me for Yachting

Boats have always been part of my world. My dad had speedboats and my mum lived on a houseboat, so from a young age, I was exposed to boat life and all the little things that come with it from terminology to dock etiquette. That familiarity gave me a natural comfort on the water and a curiosity for the lifestyle that came with it. Plus the biggest necessity, I DON’T get sea sick!

In high school, I worked retail, which taught me the art of steaming, folding, organizing, and handling different types of garments, all incredibly helpful in the laundry department onboard. I even (super randomly) worked at a discount dry cleaner during high school, where I learned how to remove tricky stains, press uniforms, and deliver clothes looking spotless and fresh.

Then came my four years at The Darling Oyster Bar in Charleston, a high-end, fast-paced restaurant where I truly grew into myself. I didn’t just wait tables, I trained new hires, helped run events like private parties and baby showers, and learned how to stay calm and polished under pressure. It was there I mastered the flow of service and the importance of attention to detail, whether I was placing silverware just right or remembering the preferences of a VIP guest. My coworkers became family as we spent so much time together.

Every job I’ve had has helped shape the kind of stewardess I’m ready to become: calm, capable, organized, and genuinely excited to deliver five-star service. I’m ready to contribute from day one, whether that’s cabin detailing, table service, or folding a mountain of towels with a smile. My foundation is solid, my energy is high, and I’m eager to prove I’ve got exactly what it takes.
