The Fashionista’s Guide to the Capsule Cabin Wardrobe

As a girl who is heavily into fashion, packing light has always been tricky but it is always worth it. I cannot tell you the amount of times I have overpacked, lost my luggage, and then realized I did not even wear half of the stuff I brought. As I have grown, I have finally seen the appeal of a capsule wardrobe. This is exactly what you need when you are living on board a yacht.

For me, that includes things like a solid black bikini because they are so easy to re-wear, along with very neutral colored tank tops. In the summer, and especially on a boat, you are wearing as little clothing as possible when you are not in uniform. Keeping it simple is the only way to survive the limited storage space.

My Top 3 Non-Negotiable Cabin Items
Beyond the clothes, there are three things I absolutely cannot live without in a shared crew cabin.

1. A High Quality Eye Mask

I am someone who can only sleep in pitch darkness. A lot of the time, working on boats means sharing a cabin with coworkers who might have a different schedule than you. In the past, I have been known to wrap my head with a pashmina just to block out the light, but having a dedicated eye mask strapped on is so much nicer. It is a total game changer for getting actual rest.

2. AirPods (The Snoring Solution)

The next item I need is my AirPods. I use these during my free time, but I mostly use them when I sleep. I really dislike snoring, and since I do not snore myself, sharing a cabin can be a gamble. You can never bet on having a peaceful sleep environment. I have used earplugs before and love them, but I think AirPods are a step up. They allow me to listen to a podcast or white noise to help lull me to sleep despite whatever is happening in the bunk next to me.

3. Packing Cubes

My third most important thing is my set of packing cubes. Being organized has become something I love because it makes me feel prepared for anything. Since I sometimes deal with time anxiety, having a specific place for every single item is crucial for me.

Streamlining the Beauty Routine
This organization also applies to my makeup and skincare. I used to carry an absurd amount of the same products just in case I wanted to switch things up, but I have learned it is best to have a few high quality products that cover all the bases. I also have a blog post on my top 5 makeup/skincare necessities if you want to check that out!

Keeping your makeup bag as organized as your clothes makes life in a confined space so much easier. When you are living on a boat, being organized and comfortable is the ultimate key to success.
