What I’m Doing Right Now to Stay Boat-Ready

While I’ve been actively dock walking, connecting with other yachties, and searching for daywork. I’ve also found ways to stay sharp and yacht-ready from home because landing your first role isn’t just about waiting, it’s about preparing.

One of the most obvious (and surprisingly satisfying) things I do is polish silverware and glassware by hand. Sure, we have a dishwasher but there’s something about the shine of a freshly polished glass that feels rewarding. I’ve also spent hours practicing napkin folds and turndown service setups. Pinterest is my go-to, I’ve curated boards full of tablescape inspiration that I recreate and tweak with my own creative touches. I take pride in my ability to match table designs to specific vibes or guests, and I truly enjoy making a space feel special through small, intentional details.

Staying physically fit is another non-negotiable for me. I want to feel my best so I can perform my best. Yoga and Pilates are my daily go-tos because they require minimal equipment and can be done in tight spaces, just like on board. Swimming is another favorite, not only for fitness but because it reminds me what I’m working toward: a life on (and in) the water.

In my downtime, you’ll catch me watching interior crew YouTube videos, stewardess vlogs, or brushing up on protocols like ISPS and ship safety. I believe safety is a top priority, and staying familiar with procedures makes me feel more confident and capable when I do get the call.

Until then, I’m doing everything I can to be as ready as possible, polishing, practicing, and preparing so when that opportunity comes, I’ll be able to hit the deck running.
